The Buffalo Bills have sported several different uniforms since joining the AFL in 1960 and have one of the best color schemes—red, white and blue—that a franchise can use at their disposal. While the team hasn’t always been flashy on the field, they’ve sported (at times) some of the sharpest looking uniforms in the National Football League. Being in the dead period of the 2016 NFL offseason, we at Building the Herd decided to take a look at some of the best and worst uniform combinations the team has worn over the last 56 years.
Worst Buffalo Bills Uniform: 2002-2010
I think that every Buffalo Bills fan can agree that the dark blue-on-blue uniform with a red helmet combination was the worst that the team has ever had, and it really symbolizes the “dark age” of the franchise’s success during that time. The team posted a 58-92 record while sporting this unappealing color combination and an entire era of a mismanaged team is embedded in the minds of fans that watched.
1975-1983 Buffalo Bills Uniforms
The uniforms worn by the Buffalo Bills in the mid 1970’s to the early 80’s were decent, considering the time period they rocked them. The white helmet is a sharp look that the team wears today and the royal blue jersey with the red-trimmed numbers are a nice touch to complement the white pants and white socks with red stripes. Not the best, but not awful.
The current uniforms the Buffalo Bills wear are fantastic. They go back to their roots with the royal blue jerseys and white pants to go along with a white helmet that gives a clean, crisp and sharp look. In my opinion, they’re arguably one of the best uniforms in the NFL at the moment.
It’s no coincidence that the best looking uniforms in Buffalo Bills history were simultaneously worn during the most successful years the team has ever had. Players always say “Look good, feel good, play good” and the Super Bowl teams of the early 90’s certainly embodied that sentiment. The light blue jerseys weren’t too flashy and made the red helmet that so many fans despise stand out. They weren’t too flashy and they complemented the white pants perfectly. Their white-on-white away uniforms were fantastic as well.
So, Bills fans—which uniform combination over the last 56 years were your favorite? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section!
